Let’s face it, anger is a destructive emotion. There’s no question about it. Besides, when some are angry, others tend to get hurt emotionally and regretfully, sometimes physically.
It’s also considered to be unhealthy, which is why a lot of people attend anger management therapy sessions in order for them to control their anger.
However, did you know that anger is also a powerful force that you can use in a positive way?
Normally, most people think that anger is just negative. But think outside of the box for a minute. Experiencing anger is natural and there are ways where we can use the energy of anger for positive outcomes and sometimes magnificent creations. The key is to be disciplined in your response to anger.
So, here are a few tidy little tricks on how you can overcome anger and turn it positive.
1. Channel physical activity. Use the energy of anger positively and channel it to exercise. I know it may not be the most seamless transition but the best way I have found to accomplish this is just do it. Don’t think, just do.
Whenever you feel angry about something, go to the gym and use the energy to workout. Or run around the block whenever you feel angry. The key here is to turn all the energy you get from anger in to some sort of physical activity. By doing so, you will be able to burn up anger instead of letting it consume you.
2. Play it out. Turn your anger energy into creative energy. You can either use the energy for clay sculpture, painting or by simply playing a musical intrument. This will keep your brain preoccupied and you will eventually forget about what you are angry about. In fact, doing something creative whenever you feel anger can help uncover what causes this emotion and help you release and reclaim clarity.
3. Write it out. You can also use anger to change the situation. Instead of letting anger consume you, try to find out what’s causing you to feel this way. Then, you can simply change the cause of it. A great way to do this is to turn off your phone, TV and all other distractions – create a quiet and peaceful environment to be in solitude and write about your experiences without editing it. Be honest about. Get intentional about this little exercise and give it as much time as you need. Surprisingly, through this effort you will reveal to yourself the root cause of why you are angry.
The importance of uncovering why you are angry is to be in a perfect position on how you can do something about it. You are actually doing this in order for you to find out how to make positive change. You can either change your response when you encounter the same situation that causes you to be angry or change the situation and find out how you can exit the predicament without manifesting anger.
“Anger is a great force. If you control it, it can be transmuted into a power which can move the whole world.” ~ William Shenstone
Anger is a terrible emotion to feel but that ugly energy can be turned into positive energy. By following these tips, you will give yourself a fighting chance not to allow anger to consume you.
How do you respond to anger? Are you angered more frequently than you would like?
The more important question is, if you are angered easily would you consider making some positive and healthy changes in your life by getting a grip on your response to your rage?
