Its no secret, existing in this world today can manifest undue tension and complexity.
Its ironic that one of the of the things designed to simplify life can work against us at times. Its called “technology”.
Although technology makes life easier and more convenient to live, you will find that this very same technology is also causing us a lot of stress. Why?
Take mobile phones and the Internet as examples.
These inventions make communication easier and a lot faster but they also give us the impulse to fill a certain need to work faster. We have this intrinsic desire to keep up with technology.
Before mobile phones were invented, we were able to sit down and have lunch without worrying about work. Now we are always accessible and always “on call”.
Face it, technology is here to stay….it ain’t going nowhere. You have no control over this. The only thing you can control is how you respond to the stress the “technology overload” can manifest and the level of positivity you maintain.
Here are 10 basic ways to compete with this stress and how to create calm in your world.
Gently Reward Your Body
A warm bath. Warm water presents just the right properties to relax muscles and also get rid of stiffness and sore joints. Immerse yourself in very warm water before you go to bed. This will cause your body temperature to rise allowing you to sleep faster and deeper.
Try adding 2 cups of Epsom salts to a hot bath. This will help soothe jangled nerves and restore a sense of well being. A nice touch would be lighting a scented candle and playing soft music while you bathe.
Massage therapy. If you had a massage before, then you know why this can create calm in your world. A little massage therapy will go a long way to relax your mind and body. Today, you will find that there are plenty of spas where you will be able to get a good massage to relax your mind and body and create calm in your world.
Yoga and stretching. Yoga will pragmatically create calm in your world. It will help train your mind and body to keep calm during times of tension and stress. It will also slow down your heart rate and calm your mind which will enable you to focus more on the important tasks rather than wasting energy on stress related anger and frustration.
“To keep the body in good health is a duty, otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” ~Buddha

Listen to good music. Music plays a very important role in our lives. For example, whenever you go out for a jog or lift some weights, more than likely you would bring your iPod with you and listen to a lively or fast paced song to motivate you to keep on running and lifting. So if you want to relax, listen to soft and slow music.
The Movement-Consumption Paradigm
Exercise. Regular physical activity builds up energy levels and strengthens muscles. Also, exercising has been found to encourage the body to release endorphins, which is also called the “feel good” hormones, which reduce pain and induce a feeling of euphoria. This means that exercising will help in improving your mood and mental concentration aside from keeping your body healthy and looking good.
Drink tea. Both green tea and black tea contains an amino acid that produces a sense of calmness and relaxation. Make it a point to drink a cup of green or black tea everyday and calmness will be yours.
Rest And Excursions
Sleeping. Lack of sleep is not only unhealthy but it will also leave you feeling cranky, moody, and absent-minded. Most people think that pulling “all nighters” will help them get more work done. The truth of the matter is that “all nighters” should be done only when it is absolutely necessary. It won’t do you any good when you begin to work inefficiently because of exhaustion.
Going on a vacation. Not all of us can afford to hop on a plane and go to Antigua for vacation because we feel stressed. There are plenty of ways to create a mini-vacation. See the Daily Takeoff for some cool ideas for mini-vacations.
“Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop.” ~ Ovid
Eliminate Surprises With Preparation
Create a to-do list. Lack of organization can be the root cause of some stress. Follow Zen To Done
by making a “no fail” to-do list, to keep track of the important tasks that you need to finish each day. It will help you get the job done more efficiently and faster, which will lower your stress level.
Travel To Lands Far Far Away
Read a book. Turn off the TV and exercise your mind a bit. Reading good books will help turn on your imagination and eventually escape the stressful world we live in.
These are the ways on how you can create calm in your world. By following these tips, you can be sure that you will be able to get rid of stress and live a healthier life.

Hey Kevin,
Good tips… I like listening to music… that always has a way of relaxing me. Oh yah… don’t forget about meditation. Meditation helps you to stay calm in the midst of chaos.
I’m glad I dropped by.

These are really good tips for stress relief Kevin. And, you reminded me that I decided to take up Yoga, and I just found a place where I can do Yoga and meditation. I’m really looking forward to it. One of my favorite relaxations is to go on holidays also!
